  1. Isn’t that more accurately a Tablet PC? Why are people calling it a netbook? It won’t be cheap and it’s not a book.

  2. You know, it is more accurately a Tablet PC. I think since netbook is the buzzword these days they pegged it with that.

Apple doesn’t do cheap products so you’re probably right there. I think the rationale is that: it’s a low power (in terms of CPU) device that’s main purpose is web surfing and light word processor usage (like note taking) and maybe a little e-book reading? Which is the same realm as a netbook. Tablet PCs are just laptops with a touch screen.

Even if it is a tablet PC. It’s still a fundamentally bad idea.

  3. Hm. Well, the term “Tablet PC” used to mean w/o keyboard, but when that didn’t catch on they started developing hybrid notebooks. This may be another reason they’re avoiding the term, because it now has a different meaning. But then why use “netbook”? Another possible reason is that Microsoft was trying to push the Tablet PC concept in the early 2000s.

But the biggest reason is probably term popularity. It’s about as accurate as calling it a extra large iPhone.

BTW, I voted for “mininote.” The term “netbook” reminded me too much of those crappy net box products. Oh well.
