Coolest Remix of a Children’s Anime Theme Ever!
Okay, so I saw My Neighbor Totoro @ Otakon 2006 and it was some sort of awesome. In the end though, it wasn't dramatic or full of death and explosions. If this was the theme for it though, it would have not been "some sort of awesome" and just been plain super awesome.
The Future of Browsing: Aurora

So Mozilla is smoking again and they came up with something crazy in their concept labs. Enter Aurora highly collaborative web-surfing experience that at one point resembles something out of Real Drive (an anime). Check out their concept video here:
The Scent of a Man
I believe that a true man has a powerful aura. Now some people use this aura and make friends, pull women, command respect, or maybe just spread fear. However, eventually you meet someone who doesn't get it.
For the first time ever, I shook a man's hand and I now smell like his cologne. As he walked about a trail of it overtook the area. Impressive? Sure. Appealing? Not in the slightest. I don't know if I'll ever feel clean again.
If you must rock cologne, know when to stop. Now you know you may not just lose the ladies but the men who command your future financial stability may be offended as well.
NOTE: Am I saying that women don't hold positions of power? Of course, since when did we allow half-people to hold power? But such a blatantly long and sexist post is for another time.
That Was (Not) Easy.
I finally have DVD playback working in Ubuntu 8.04. Apparently, the software used to decrypt DVDs wasn't actually built for my processor (64-bit) so I had to build it myself. And when you do the auto-install it conveniently forgets to tell you that "By the way, DVD reading is working but it's all garbage because we failed hard and didn't make a 64-bit build for the 64-bit OS."
With that said, I honestly think that Ubuntu 8.04 is ready for the public, as long as your installing the regular 32-bit version and not the 64-bit version. It seems everywhere I turn I run in to 64-bit woes. My next obstacle is getting Opera to work nicely.
So I've been out and about and definitely not posting. I'll try to draw on my recent trip to VA for some content. Lets just see how things go, I got a couple more trips lined up before I'm grounded in MD again. Hang tight and the posts will come again.
A small bit of personal history: I almost went to jail and/or died on multiple occasions.
Give The Gift to the Company
How did gift cards ever catch on? You want to give a gift to someone but you can't think of anything? Give them credit to a store you know they like. Wait, if you couldn't think of anything to get them in the store you think they like, how are you really sure they even want to spend more money at that store?
Why don't you just give them cash? These new Visa Gift Cards, now those make more sense. Cash, while awesome, can't be easily spent online. Visa Gift Cards can. That's a good idea spawning from a really bad one. I can't hate because such a bad idea spawned a good one but I still hold rage in my heart because such a bad idea caught on like wild fire.
Apparently, McDonalds and Wendy's find it's worth the production costs to have their own gift cards as well.
"Happy Birthday, enjoy your triple bypass."
NOTE: Rants are easier to publish in a short amount of time. Get used to it. Real posts in the future, I swear.
Eee is now over 900(0)!
Eee PC released awhile back as a hot new flash-based ultra-portable. I thought it was pretty slick but not quite ready for my tastes.
Enter the Eee 900. It's pretty much the same machine with the processor uncapped and a larger screen. It's also about $150 extra. Is it worth it?! Hell yeah, hot damn!
The extra screen space makes it a lot more visible and doesn't waste the available room like the last model. What is very important to me is the fact that the processor speed bump that enabled 1080p playback within Windows. Previously, HD video was choppy. I'm guessing since the graphics processor integrated that hardware-acceleration plays only a small part in helping the process. It gives me hope that I don't have to re-encode my anime to watch it on the go.
I'm definitely keeping an eye on this machine, and my wallet and if everything goes well I might have one of these when I return to campus in the Fall.
A Name is Something Someone Else Gives You
Quick Quip: Why are there other people running around the internet with the name Noky? Ferian also has a few hits as well. I have to admit Ferian isn't my own doing but even so, I have a new quest -- to find a name I can call my own. Chances are this is simply mad-ramblings at three in the morning but meh, food for thought.
