The continuation of a decade is just another year: 2011 Resolutions

Needless to say, I failed horribly at my New Year's resolutions for 2010.

  1. Produce six gamesĀ I managed a total of zero
  2. Learn the top 1000 kanji I pretty much stopped studying after I left college.
  3. Read my Japanese textbooks (JSL/JWL series and Genki I) Didn't finish any of these. Stop reading after the first month
  4. Achieve Navy PRT standard Hahahahahahaha.....
  5. Cook and bake more Hey, I actually did this one. I'm sure I'm not where I wanted to be but I do cook more.
  6. Manage a post every week Definitely didn't even get half-way: 21/52

So, I managed 1/6. Really, I have more I didn't even share so my actual number is worse. This year lets try to make things a bit more achievable?

  1. Release 4 titles
  2. Get back to 85 kg (or 187 lbs)
  3. Listen and Learn through Level 3 of TTMIK
  4. Manage 52 posts for the year.

This should be far more manageable. Some of them I'm already in the process of completing so it should be easier than before.

Releasing four titles gives me 3 months to work on each on rather than 2 months. Sure some of these titles should be projects one could complete in a week or two but that's not the point. If I have to resort to pushing out 1 hour Tetris and Pacman tutorials in order to hit four titles, I'll do it. I am super slacking. How long has Project Silver been in development?! It's like my personal Duke Nukem Forever. I have plenty of time now, no excuses.

Since I live in Korea now and not Japan, it's obvious that I'm switching languages. I'm not forsaking Japanese to the abyss. I plan to finish learning it but while I'm here, it's probably best I get the local language down. I've already started a few lessons in the TalkToMeInKorean series. Also in my favor, I take Korean classes at the YMCA which has some serious overlap. I should be able to decimate this. I figure if I can commit the lessons to memory, I should be able to converse in Korean fairly well. I can already understand quite a lot of simple stuff.

Getting back to 187 lbs is still the goal. I'm not making this one any easier. I'm dropping the Navy PRT fitness guidelines. I don't care if I can do 100 pushups or run a mile in 5 minutes. Well, I do but if I can get to 187 I'll be happy and we'll work from there. I'm still over 200 (latest weight check puts me at 97 kg -- 213 lbs). However, I paid for a six month gym membership and I've resolved myself to hit the gym at least five days a week for 30 minutes. I basically clock in 3.2 km (approximately 2 miles) at whatever speed (usually 6-7 km/h) and then pack up and go home. The whole process takes about 40 minutes of gym time and 20 minutes of travel time. Not bad if I do say so myself. This is the first week and I hope the invested money helps me stick to it.

I pay for this webspace and I barely use it as it is. I need to at least blog. Plus, I'm in Korea and I promised to keep people up to date on all the boring things I do. I'm going for 52 posts again this year. Not trying for the once a week thing. I know it probably won't hold. What I will try to do is make 2-3 posts in a week and then time release them (I already do that sometimes). I completed the goal of 52 posts in 2009 so lets see if we can go back to that.

That's all I'm resolving to do this year. No secret agendas. Well maybe a few, but we all need our secrets. Let me know what you're resolutions for 2011 are. Actually, don't -- I don't care but I do want you to keep them this time around. I do care about the world being a better place and better people keep their word. Let's get it.
