The Losers’ Bracket

Senioritis - the realization that every academic notation on your transcript thus far will soon become irrelevant when compared to next stage of your life your about to begin.

This realization makes me want to believe that grading systems need to scrapped. The fact is that they don't. We need ways to evaluate one's performance in comparison to other students. What happens to people who have passion but little tolerance for things outside of that realm of passion. I think this mindset makes me something of a failure in the eyes of the system. However, myself and others like me have a more efficient use for society than as bottom-feeding workers.

My real issue is that people who cheat through school (through cop-out classes and actual methods of cheating) will come out of school with respectable GPAs. Those people will go on to b.s. through an interview and land themselves a decent job. When faced with the pressures of real performance the people who actually can't cut it will be fired and slowly plummet to some pit of darkness.

What about the flip-side situation? The people who selectively apply themselves based on their interests and end up as trash in the system. Where's the losers' bracket in life?

It seems like there isn't one and I'm pretty sure that feeling is true. The system is single elimination and those who choose to deviate have to carve their own path.

All this stemmed from a conclusion I've had for some time on the purpose and validity of academia and college experience. I guess that will be another post.

In other news, life is awesome. Enjoy the nice weather.
